The Heartbreaker Look

Here at GBJ, Valentine’s Day isn’t about cheesy Hallmark cards or pressure to pair up. It’s about connecting with yourself in a way that makes you feel beautiful. Here’s one way to do that…

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, Valentine’s Day can be very special.  Some people pamper themselves with gifts, while others prefer something more low-key. This year,  why not offer yourself the best gift of all: confidence! Trust me when I say that there is nothing more appealing than a woman with confidence.

Rather than letting the whole world know that you are single (and possibly miserable), why not look like a million bucks and make every guy wish he could get a second of your time? We’ve got just the look…

The Heartbreaker Look

Here is a step-by-step guide to getting the perfect V-Day look:

Step 1: Apply a primer on your eyelids. Ideally you should use brushes to achieve this look, but if you don’t have any, using your fingers is okay. Just make sure to wash them before!

Step 2: Using a flat brush, apply a greyish pink eyeshadow to the mobile part of your eye. You shouldn’t put any color above the crease of your eye for this particular look.

Step 3: Using a blending brush, apply a light brown eyeshadow to the crease of your eye. You should be making a line with your brush from the outer side of your eye to the inner side.

Step 4: Then, take a darker shade of brown, perhaps one with sparkles, and apply it to the outer crease of your eye, creating a shadow effect. This is to create a more dramatic effect.

Step 5: Using an angle brush, apply some gel or cream black eyeliner. Try keeping a steady hand and here’s your chance to play with the length and thickness of your line, depending on your taste.

Step 6: Apply mascara on both your upper and lower lashes. I went for a more intense look, so I opted for the darkest shade of black. You can go for a more subtle look and use dark brown or regular black.

(I prefer to start off with the eyes because if any eyeshadow gets on your face, you can easily wipe it off, and you avoid having to reapply your concealer or foundation.)

Step 7: Apply your foundation. Again, a brush is ideal, but if applied properly, using your fingers can do the job.

My tip: Dab a bit of your foundation under your eyes to cover dark circles.

Step 7: Apply your concealer under you eyes. I suggest starting from your inner eye, making your way toward your outer eye, and continuing a bit past the eye upward toward the end of your eyebrow. This “hook” motion will help brighten and emphasize your eyes.

Step 8: Apply a small amount of your concealer on your lips. This will help you avoid getting any red around your lips, creating a perfect pout.

Step 9: Use a red or pink pencil to trace the contour of your lips. Try using the same color as your lipstick. Red is for a more dramatic look, but pink can be just as nice.

Step 10: Apply your lipstick and finish it off by applying clear gloss over your lipstick.

There you go! These are my 10 steps in achieving the perfect Valentine’s Day Look. However, feel free to alter, replace, or remove a step or two. For instance, if you don’t want any eyeshadow, you can simply wear eyeliner and mascara. Depending on what works for you, you can modify this look to better suit you!

This Valentine’s Day may be about new beginnings, whether that means romantically or health wise. You can get this look while also being conscious about which products you are using. Everyone associates pink and red with v-day, why not think green this year?
